What Got You Here, Won't Get You There

What got me here, won’t get me THERE.  I stay fit in my 40’s by running.  A few months back I noticed my running shoes had gotten quite worn after nearly a thousand miles.  I could not continue to reach my running goal with what I had.  I decided to replace them with a new pair.  The new shoes gave me a fresh approach in my fitness journey.

When it came to my shoes, I had this thought: “what got me here, won’t get me THERE”  I could’ve continued wearing these old shoes, but eventually they would cause an injury.  My shoes had become weathered and worn.  I needed new shoes with fresh treads, stronger traction, and better cushion.  It took a few runs to get used to these new shoes, but they are serving me well as I continue a fresh running goal.

Those in leadership can resonate with these old shoes, we all can become weathered and worn.  We need fresh ideas, creative solutions, and updated equipment.  It can be so difficult changing-leaving the comfort of the old to embrace the new.  Sure there’s some cost and discomfort, but changes are necessary to keep moving forward.

My shoes, though they were useful for a time (here), were no longer going to get me where I wanted to go (there).  However what will get me “there” will be leveraging a few key traits I developed along the way.  These continue to serve me well in life and leadership.  Leverage these statements to get you “there.”

Commitment.  I will commit to processes that lead to health and longevity.

Stamina.  I will continue pursuing what’s most important, and though I may tire, I will not give up.

Perseverance.  I will push through challenges and obstacles to see my hard work pay off.

Consistency.  I will continue to make progress one choice, one project, and one day at a time.

What in your journey has gotten you where you are now?  What do you need to get “there”?  Leaders are discovering the power that coaching has to get them from “where they are to where they want to be.”   What traits can you leverage to get you there?  Exploring these questions is great material to cover in a coaching session.  Let’s connect over a free Curiosity Call [ calendly.com/reachcoacheric ] and an my landing page at [ coacheric.me ]
