"Some Beats None"

SOME BEATS NONE. Author and speaker, Jon Acuff has some great content that has helped shape my motivation and focus as I grow in my life and leadership. Jon shares a concept on his channel that has helped me out this week: “SOME BEATS NONE” --a simple phrase that has powerful life application. So many times we can get frustrated when the whole task or project isn’t complete. Life gets in the way. We oversleep. Unexpected emergencies derail our plans. These are a part of life and can cause us to throw up our hands and give up because we can’t do it all. The mindset of doing “all or none” can paralyze us from even taking the first step. Here’s where the phrase “some beats none” can help us focus when life gets crazy. Some always beats none, always. Even in a soccer match you will win if you have 1 goal and your opponent has none. “Some beats none” in everyday life.

If your goal is to clean the house, but just end up cleaning one closet, some beats none.

If you want to exercise 30 minutes a day, but only have time for 15, or 5, some beats none.

If you’re working on a home renovation project, and only hang one sheet of drywall, some beats none.

If you want to save a set amount of money, but can only save $50, some beats none.

In cross-cultural contexts, cultural understanding and language learning are a full-time job. Mastery of a language can be a life-long pursuit. Having a two-minute basic conversation might be your goal, but learning and using a short, relevant phrase may be all the momentum you need to keep going. Why? Because “some beats none.”

So where does this phrase, “some beats none”, take traction in your life? Where would you benefit from at least completing some of a project or goal? I’d love to connect with you to explore how coaching can help you make consistent and confident progress on your leadership pathway. You may not know all the steps of getting where you want to go, but we’ll see the next step. Why? Because “some beats none.”
