SKYLINE

SKYLINE. I grew up about 30 minutes from downtown Chicago. Its skyline is familiar to millions. There’s iconic high rises and architectural masterpieces. There are thousands of addresses in the city, but a few main features dominate the view of the skyline. In a recent coaching conversation I had with a cross-cultural client, we experienced a fascinating time of awareness. At year’s end, my client was in a place of both reflection and planning. I asked the client, “Looking back at the skyline of the past season, what are the dominant features that emerge?” Basically asking about the key events, lessons, and experiences of the year. I then took the conversation a step further: “Looking forward to the horizon of next year, what are the dominant features for your life and leadership?”

The conversation that came from these two questions brought so much clarity, perspective, and hope that was so contagious. It got me thinking of how in my own life, I need regular times of reflection and vision to explore my skyline and horizon moments in each season.

So, what about you: Looking back at the last year, what were the dominant features of your skyline? What experiences, lessons, insights, life events happened this year? What did you learn? How did you grow? Looking forward to the horizon of the next year, what’s coming up for you? What do you want to see happen? How will you grow? What goals and strategies are you committing to?

I’d love to explore your skyline in the safe environment of a coaching call. This process brings valuable perspective and clarity to your life and leadership. This is a great season to reach out for a coaching connection. So, what’s in your skyline?
