Tandem Bike

TANDEM BIKE We maintain a family rhythm of having family nights on Fridays. We allow one of the kids to pick the menu and activity. During a recent family night, we had a Lego activity. That week, I had spent some time considering a word picture that connects to Coaching. I chose to create a tandem bike out of Legos as seen in the picture. This tandem bike, poised for adventure and movement, shows us what Coaching is all about. The client is in front, steering the conversation where the client wants to go. Notice the front-man who is bigger and more dominant, is a pirate, ready for adventure and discovery. The coach is behind, not providing the directions, rather focusing on peddling and pushing, providing the momentum forward. Throughout the journey, the coach is equipped with tools and resources that promote the discovery and awareness needed to foster an environment of new possibilities. The conversation is centered on clients moving forward on their journey. I’ve experienced this dynamic partnership from both seats. I’ve seen first-hand significant movement and relevant progress in solidifying values and pursuing purpose that really matters. The coaching connection is powerful because we’re on the journey together. The tandem bike coaching picture might be just the thing to helps summarize the power of coaching. There’s an African proverb that states, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” How far do you want to go?
