I try to stay fit in my 40’s by running once or twice a week. I’m currently working on running long distances as I train for a half-marathon. I run locally in our small town without stoplights. A portion of my route includes a 1-mile loop in our small rural cemetery. Instead of considering this location as a creepy place, I like to think of it as a place of perspective.
With this mindset, I recently came across one area of this route that is surrounded by gravestones on one side and corn growing on the other, as seen in the picture. One side is buried, the other side is planted. There is limited finality on one side and limitless potential on the other.
As I process my own leadership journey, there are times when I feel buried, whether by the work, responsibilities, commitments, or expectations. The feeling of being buried fades away when I remember that I am planted. Like the corn on one side, I have limitless potential. At the time of this writing that corn has since been harvested. And whether for seed or for feed, it will cause continual growth in other systems.
I am cultivating a life-posture of leaning forward. The time I’ve spent developing and nurturing God-given talents, skills, and abilities will yield results that will cause growth in other leaders and other systems. The growth I experience will be multiplied. No, I am not buried, I’m planted! And so are you! If you feel more “buried” than “planted” in your current leadership journey, why not reach out for professional coaching. A coaching relationship will help you gain perspective, cause you to process current realities, and inspire you to dream for a future filled with hope that comes from unlimited potential.
