In a recent visit with my Dad in Chicago, I had a powerful AHA! moment during my stay. Dad has always been very active, but this winter, he had some health setbacks that required him to have in-home physical therapy. He has regained a lot of his strength and mobility. During one of the therapy visits, the physical therapist made some powerful statements that resonated with life coaching.
The first statement was, “You need to remember to breathe!” Often when undergoing therapy or even regular exercise, it gets easy to forget to breathe throughout the reps. The therapist pushed for more reps and longer time holding positions, but also emphasized that the body needs to breathe. Without breathing, the body cannot be fully engaged to regain strength. As much as this appointment was about pushing limits and getting stronger, it was also a
space to breathe.
Coaching conversations are like physical therapy appointments that are focused on the work of getting stronger in the context of having to breathe. With all the action, pressure, and expectation that storms the life of a leader, there needs to be intentional environments to breathe despite the day's busy agenda. Work, yes. Strive, sure. But, remember to breathe! Let’s connect to give you space to breathe and work. Book a free curiosity call by searching [coacheric.me] and book an appointment on my calendar.
